Online Individual Therapy for Adults in California

A one-on-one space that's yours — to sort through what you're carrying, understand yourself better and find a steadier way forward.

A space that's yours

Individual therapy is a consistent, private conversation between you and a licensed therapist. There is no script and no expectation that you arrive with everything figured out. Some people come with a clear concern; others simply know that something feels heavy or stuck.

At Dixon Behavioral Health, individual therapy happens online, so you can meet your therapist from a private space at home — whether you live in Bakersfield, elsewhere in Kern County, or anywhere else in California.

Your therapist will move at your pace. You decide what to share and when, and together you shape goals that feel meaningful and manageable.

What individual therapy can help with

Adults come to therapy for many reasons. Some of the concerns we commonly support include:

  • Anxiety, overthinking and panic
  • Depression, low mood and feeling stuck
  • Trauma and distressing past experiences
  • Grief and loss
  • Relationship patterns and communication
  • Stress, burnout and compassion fatigue
  • Life transitions, identity and self-esteem

You don't need a diagnosis or a label to reach out. If something is affecting your daily life, that's reason enough.

Approaches your therapist may use

Our clinicians draw on evidence-based approaches and tailor them to your needs and readiness:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Notice how thoughts, feelings and actions connect, and practice more useful responses to everyday challenges.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): Build skills for emotional regulation, handling distress and communicating what you need.
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR): Work with distressing memories through a structured process that starts with preparation and safety.
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): Make room for difficult feelings while taking small steps toward what matters to you.

No single approach fits everyone. Your therapist will explain what they suggest and why, and you can always ask questions or share preferences.

What to expect in your first sessions

It starts with a free consultation call, where our team learns a little about what you're looking for and helps match you with a therapist. In your first sessions, your therapist will explain confidentiality and its limits, ask about your hopes for therapy and leave room for your questions.

You won't be asked to tell your whole story on day one. Building trust can take time, and your pace matters. Together you'll discuss what feels comfortable, what has helped before and how you want to work together.

Therapy from anywhere in California

Because sessions are held by secure video, you can keep a consistent appointment without commuting or rearranging your day around travel. All you need is a private space and a reliable connection.

You must be physically located in California during each session, and your therapist will confirm your location. If you're in crisis, online outpatient therapy isn't the right level of support — call or text 988 or call 911.

Frequently asked questions

Most clients begin with weekly sessions. You and your therapist decide together what frequency fits your needs, and it can change over time.

Research supports telehealth therapy for many concerns, including anxiety and depression. Whether it fits you depends on your needs, your privacy at home and the care your clinician recommends. Results vary.

That's completely fine. Many people arrive without a clear starting point. Your therapist will ask gentle questions and help you find a manageable place to begin.

Dixon is in-network with Aetna. Your exact benefits depend on your plan; use our callback form to request a benefits conversation. Self-pay and superbills are also available.

No. We serve adults across all of California by telehealth. You must be physically in California during each session.
