About Dixon Behavioral Health

Dixon Behavioral Health is a Joint Commission–accredited virtual Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) serving teens and adults (ages 13–59) across California. We specialize in trauma and depression, using evidence-based care: EMDR, CBT, DBT, and ACT. We're a founder-led practice, built with intention and heart. As our Founding Medical Director, you'll help shape our clinical culture from the ground up. We're based in Bakersfield, Kern County, and hire psychiatrists remotely throughout California.

Why You'll Love This Role

Fully remote

Practice from home, with no commute and no office politics.

Start small, with room to grow

Begins at 2–4 hours per week and fits alongside your current practice. As our program expands, so can your role, with the opportunity to grow toward full-time.

A founding leadership role

Real influence on clinical standards in an accredited, growing program, without the bureaucracy.

No on-call, nights, or weekends

Your evenings stay yours.

We handle the admin

Our team manages billing, credentialing, scheduling, and intake, so you can focus on patients.

Added malpractice protection

You're covered under our group policy on top of your own.

What You'll Do

  • Complete psychiatric evaluations for clients entering the IOP
  • Provide ongoing medication management via telehealth
  • Review and approve medical policies and procedures for the program
  • Review and sign off on client discharge documentation
  • Join a brief monthly clinical team meeting
  • Consult with the clinical team on complex cases as needed

What 2–4 Hours a Week Looks Like

Here's an example of a typical starting week:

1–2 new psychiatric evaluations (60 min each)

2–3 medication follow-ups (30 min each)

Medical Director review — policies and discharge sign-offs, as needed

Your hours grow as our program grows, at a pace that works for you.

What You Bring

  • MD or DO with an active, unrestricted California medical license
  • Board certified or board eligible in Psychiatry
  • Active DEA registration
  • Comfort treating both adults and adolescents (ages 13+)
  • Experience with trauma, depression, or IOP/PHP levels of care preferred
  • Comfort with telehealth and EHR documentation
  • Your own professional entity (PC or LLC), or willingness to establish one
  • Active individual malpractice coverage
  • A warm, collaborative approach that fits a trauma-informed team
